Research Summary

My research focuses on the neural mechanisms underlying cardiovascular regulation during physiological and pathological challenges. Specifically, I investigate how rostral ventrolateral medulla C1 (RVLMC1) neurons integrate respiratory, autonomic, and behavioral-state signals to regulate sympathetic activity and blood pressure. Using genetically targeted fiber photometry, optogenetics, arterial blood pressure measurement, whole-body plethysmography, and EEG/EMG recordings in freely behaving rodents, my research seeks to define the neural circuit mechanisms underlying cardiovascular responses to respiratory stress, arousal, and related physiological perturbations.
